The ensemble Il Canzoniere was born out of the enthusiasm and passion of four young musicians for the music of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, particularly vocal repertoire. Understanding the text is fundamental to this style of music. The name of the ensemble therefore comes from Petrach’s eponymous poem, which formed the basis of many compositions during this time period.
